Nice nose - almost sweet smelling, but a little thin on the palate, even at 14.5 ABV. Pretty amazing for a Virginia wine 5 years out. No evident tannins. Drink up the fruit will only fade from here.

This is actually my fourth (of six) bottle of the Friends & Family, which I purchased at RdV last year when picking up my allocation of wine. I still have yet to try either the Rendezvous or the flagship wine, but I wanted to write a short note on the F&F.
This wine has continued to improve over the last year. It is on the lean side, but the greener elements seem to have receded since my last bottle. What impresses me now and what impressed me upon first tasting it at RdV is the balance. It is a remarkably well-crafted and balanced wine. The fruit is quite harmonized with a nice sharp acidic tang on the finish. A very nice effort. The style is clearly Bordeaux and I'm very interested to try the other wines - unfortunately (?) the winery did not make them available for tasting when I picked up my allocation (the first time the wine was sold to the public).
