Nose: moderately aromatic, more Earth than fruit. Fungal, white pepper and celery are strong, then comes cherries and cranberries. Palate: light body, tart acidity. No discernible wood tannin, it's fully integrated. Bit of skin tannin on the finish, though. Alcohol stands out with a slight bite, though this dissipates after an hour or two. Red fruit is slightly but pleasantly burnt. Smoke, tar and saline along with mushroom and bell pepper. Black pepper and tobacco suggest some petit verdot in the blend. Overall a well made wine and an excellent job of blending. No secondary flavors and a relative thinness are a bit of a setback in the context of the tartness. Enjoyable but overpriced, another example of Virginia wine failing to be price-competitive.

Really nice for not being RdV's flagship. Round and powerful. Nice fruit that borders on jammy without going overboard. Full bodied, long finish. Took 2+ hours to really open up.

At the Blue Duck Tavern in DC. Soft woodsy nose hint of berries and spice, on the palate medium bodied red fruit, oak tannins and acid finish. A lovely new world Bdx from Virginia! Who knew. Very impressed.
