Dark red color. Ripe nose, raisin-y, and burnt skins related, if not a high percentage of raisin-ed clusters. On arrival, medium tannin and medium-low acidity. Flavors are correct for straight ahead zin from a very warm site (Amador county, Lodi, etc), but gosh - this comes from a beautiful vintage for zin growing, sourced from typically well-tended, mature plantings, fairly low yield and much cooler Sonoma Valley hillside parcels. Harvested too late for my taste but there is something here for lovers of that style.
Jammy...initially red berries and brambles, but after an hour in the glass, very much blackberry jam. A hint of anise at times, but also something like plastic, which is off-putting. Initial mouth-feel is smooth and flat, but it finishes well-balanced, with nice acidity, fruit and tannin levels. Disappointing QPR.
