I don’t drink young Zinfandel. Nor, do I find many Zinfandel’s that appealing. This is an exception.
If you found this bottling recently beyond its years, either check your storage, drink you wines earlier due to improper conditions or be more sure of the storage you bought it from if you acquired it from an auction site.
90% plus of people choose impatience over something better for their money and consume wines in their first year or first three and not when they have achieved their height. I refer to it this way. Were you as a person better at 20 years old or in your 30’s plus? Easy question with an even easier answer.
The nose shows relaxed jammy fruits intermixed with violets. Blackberries, dark cherries, slightly, poached, sour strawberries, black raspberries, boysenberries, gooseberries, black licorice, steeped dark fruit tea, dark, rich, moist, soil with dry leaves, dry crushed rocks, cinnamon stick, touch of nutmeg, vanillin, light black pepper with dark, fresh and withering, amazing florals. Beautiful!
The palate is rich, ruby and lush. There is excellent integration here. Integration is something you can’t fake, no matter how long you decant a young wine. Blackberries, dark cherries, slightly, poached, sour strawberries, black raspberries, boysenberries, gooseberries, touch of cooked rhubarb, black licorice, steeped dark fruit tea, dark, rich soils with dry leaves, dry crushed rocks, dry top soil, stems, cinnamon stick, vanillin, nutmeg, light, soft, black pepper, dark, mid intensity dark, asian spices, ruby violets for days with dark and withering florals with excellent acidity, balance for days, ruby, lush, well structured finish and excellent length. This bottle is at its precipice.
Proper storage and evolution…there is no substitute! Especially, with reds.

14.7% abv. Medium ruby, aromatically expressive. Raspberries, sassafras, red cherry and mint on the palate. Excellent depth, length and intensity. I've always thought of Papera as being a vineyard that expresses impeccable balance and poise and this one really demonstrates these qualities. Power, focus and lightness. My wife is in the other room swooning "OMG" ... Beautiful now and should be terrific for years to come (which won't do me much good, this was my last bottle). Note to self: sometimes it's worthwhile to let these great old vine Zins age ...
