I was really looking forward to this as the 96 is one of my favorite wines, and I opened this (along with other wines that were showing well) for some of my favorite wine friends but it was just a touch corked, just enough to flatten out the flavor profile and turn it into a disappointment. C'est domage.

Sixteenth Annual White Truffle Dinner (Inovasi - Lake Bluff IL): Our next bonus wine, added to the Claude Dugat '96/'98 Charmes-Chambertin flight. My favorite red wine tonight. Ripe black cherry and plum with more sweet than savory spice. On the opulent side for Grand Cru Burgundy, but this certainly has the structure to retain its balance and elegance, but the tannins, acidity and mineral components of the structure all contribute in nuanced and engaging ways. Incredibly long finish. Certainly good for at least another decade.

Cubs Playoff Wines (Lake Forest, IL): A truly killer Burgundy if you don't like your wines shy. Quite intense in character, yet everything in complete harmony. A hedonistic and sublime wine. Tremendously fragrant ripe black cherry aromas with overwhelming sense of sweet baking spices. Quite creamy and dense on the palate yet great balance and a wonderful mineral streak that was both dark and long. Yum. Truly a great wine no and still miles to go. One of the best wines of my year. Spicy, ripe and powerful yet so well balanced. Very special stuff.

Gorgeous wine. Ripe cherries and raspberries on the nose with secondary notes of meat, earth, and oak. Nice acidity and fine tannins on the palate. While there is lots going on and it is approachable today, this wine has just started to show development and will benefit from 5 to 6 years of cellar time and has so much fruit that it should go on for years.

Game night. Creamy, deep cherry aromas. Really substantial on the palate, a bruiser.
