Charming red and black cherry with sweet and savory spice. Elegant and nuanced from start-to-finish, with a long, complex ending. I was not thrilled with Claude Dugat 2007s at release, so put most of my bottles aside to rest for a while, which certainly paid off here. My first of two bottles purchased on release.

Served in blind. I called it a mid 97 Claude Dugat Charmes or LSJ due to its leaner profile. Nose exhibits typical ready to drink Dugat sensation of wild berries, animal, feral and dried flowers. Palate is very lean for a Claude Dugat Griotte which is usually backward and powerful. In the context of the domaine’s Griotte, this is definitely underwhelming. Drink up.

It takes 3 hours of btl aeration to get this going. Nose has flowers, wild berries, sweet dark fruit and minerals. Palate is initially light but it gained weight with time in the glass. Generally claude dugats wine is very tight and backward even at its youth, but this bottle blossomed with aeration. The rather hollow mid palate shows the vintage character, yet it is very elegant and pretty. Good for the medium term. If you want to try an ready to go griotte from dugat at a relatively affordable price, this is it. 92-93

World Wine Symposium 2013 - Kevin and Kelly's excellent adventure; 11/6/2013-11/14/2013 (Villa D’este, Lake Como): Expressive blue and black fruits, as usual mocha and roasted fruits. This is quite ripe, warm and soft. Although quite expressive and show generous fruits, I think medium concentration. Showing the typical vintage characters, the mid palate is slightly hollow and no follow through. Nevertheless this is a flamboyant wine that is drinking beautifully, a crowd pleaser.
