The last of my 4 bottles. 3 of them were extraordinary and this one merely very good. Starting to show its age and a touch of oxidation. Maybe age 45 is when these wines start to give up the ghost. Cellar much longer at your own peril. Intere stingly, a bottle of Giacosa Barbaresco Montefico, tasted on the same night, was still singing.

We had the 71 Riserva and the 71 Monfortino side by side. Both were outstanding. The Monfortino had great depth, but the Riserva was sweeter and sexier, and in the end preferred by all.

Tasted blind, This wine had a deep red/purple center and puce rims. The high intensity nose displayed cassis, cherries, cola, and some roses.
This wine was mystifying because it was medium bodied with ripe, rich fruit. It did not come across like a Barolo. And yet, it was. I would love to see how this evolves with an extended decant.
This wine seemed to just be coming around?! My guess is that it could pick up another point or so.

Straight ahead, beautiful, aged Barolo. What's not to love.

Generally sublime, this bottle was in the "very good" category. Always a pleasure.
