Smooth as silk while still a BIG mouthful of earthy mineral goodness. Plenty of dark fruit left, this tamed bruiser is drinking very nicely at present. Purchased upon release and carefully stored since, the cork was in perfect condition and the wine opened with no off notes or funk. From there it maintained a great balance as it opened with savory notes followed by earthy mineral fruit flavors. Tannins were like silk.

(8/28/20) My first Aglianico. From a 750ml bottle purchased from a local wine merchant/auction house. The fill was well into the neck, and the cork was sound, both of which boded well. I had high hopes for this bottle given what a great year 2007 was for Aglianico in general. Early professional reviews raved about how powerful and well structured this was, but recent CT reviews have not been good. Tastes do vary quite a bit, but after this bottle, I can only conclude that the most recent CT reviewers had bad bottles.
This wine was ruby-garnet with a bit of bricking around the edges of the glass. I probably should have stood this up for a few days, but oh, well. There was a lot of silt-like sediment, and I lost about half an inch of wine during decanting.
On PnP, the nose was very mature and filled with some sour undergrowth. Very shortly, the nose began showing a good bit of fruit. On the palate the acidity was high, and the tannins were still present but very ripe and resolving. The wine was well concentrated and still fruit filled, and the palate began to show some smoked meats, plums, and cocoa after about two hours. The balance was excellent, and the finish was quite long; 14% abv. (***+/16.5/93)

Earthy, crusty, mouth filler, ok now, great QPR, should be better and better over time but no reluctance to drink now,
