Deep ruby color. Started out fairly tight, especially for an '04, but softened up after an hour. Cassis, blackberry, raspberry, earth, truffle, and vanilla -- a very 'sweet' nose. Still with grippy tannins. Stronger on the nose than the palate. Strong acidic backbone. An obvious New World style, with lots of sweet fruit and oak elements. Not a typical Margaux wine. The Merlot influence is obvious. I never would have picked this out as a Left Bank Bordeaux, that's for sure.

Opened at end of a dinner at home. This was clearly not at the level of the white Burgundy it was following. Dark garnet almost to the rim, on nose and attack surprisingly fruit forward for a an 11 year old Bordeaux from an average vintage, with nice raspberry and sweet dark fruit notes. The downside of the certainly heavy extraction applied to get to such a big body in 2004 are drying, still medium tannins on the mid palate that carry into the finish. Wonder if this will find a better balance in a couple years (or not). 90+

Blinded. Dark, full-bodied very Merlot based. I guessed a St Emilion from a hot year. The Merlot character was correct but could not believe this was from 2004 as it was very rich and concentrated and not really floral. Enjoyable but personally a bit heavy on the oak and extraction.

Soft, silky, medium bodied and seductive, this mature wine serves up a smooth blend of earth, black raspberries, tobacco and earthy notes.
