  • This is an interesting, unabashedly American blend of Merlot, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Souzao, Tannat, Syrah and Petite Sirah. The nose is medium plus to pronounced, with black and red fruit and oak-influenced aromas. The palate is dry, but loaded with sweet fruit. The mouth-feel is chewy and rich. The alcohol is medium (+) at 14.5% and a little too hot. The acidity and tannins are medium. It doesn't have much minerality or structure. The integration improved quite a bit on the second day. Drinkable now but, although not age-worthy, is should improve through 2014. This is a fun "cookout" wine which is more enjoyable served on the cooler side. A good value at $14.00. More pretentious producers might re-package it with a fancy name, label and sell it for a lot more and actually get away with it.
