Weekly tasting group #057; The influence of oak. (@ WW): Transparent red with a slightly carmine rim. In the bouquet ripe red fruits and some ink. On the palate red forest fruits and red currants. Also something that reminds me of VA. The oak is evident. The tannin soft. There is a good concentration, but a lot of acidity and bitterness. Not very well balanced.

I do enjoy trying pinot noir from all over, and what a pleasant surprise this Loire entry from Denis Jamain is. A touch of mint and menthol comes through on the nose. Sour cherries and light plum on the palate. Medium bodied with a medium to long finish. Would absolutely buy again.

Dark; foursquare; tannic, hefty; assertive finish, rather charmless. Needs loads of time.

This was fine. But nothing more. A bit thin. A bit lacking in finish. A bit of a disappointment overall.

Monthly Tasting Group HWS #079; France: Loire red wines. (by AW): Red forest fruits and some bell peppers in the bouquet. On the palate red cherries and a bit sticky tannin and some vanilla. Mild acidity. Give it another 2 - 3 years of cellaring.
