Single piece cork, no sign of seepage Excellent fill level Sieving optional, not decanted. Uncharacteristically dark and deep red for a chianti Muted nose, slightly aromatic Takes a while to unfurl. Balsamic notes under the forest floor, some lingering cherry. Nice, if not scaling the heights tonight. Is still tasting quite young. Hold and revisit in 2026 13.5% abv

From half bottle. Showing a rather exaggerated, but not unusual progression of flavors.
Directly upon opening: harsh oak, cherry and tobacco with some Brett. Acidic body, tart finish of oak and bitter tannins.
45 min later: balanced oak, cherry and tobacco with almost no mustiness. Very acidic, almost unripe fruit persists with moderately soft tannins and a tart, not unpleasant finish.
Overall, a very acidic example of chianti, must be opened early, may even be a good pairing for Italian food with a zesty tomato sauce. Definitely a polar opposite of the ripe fruited, complex, pleasing 2009 Il Poggiale

Blind tasted. Nose of dried cherry, red plum, blackberry, mushroom, forest floor, violets, red dust. Palate added black cherry, dried plum, cedar. Med-plus body, tannins, and finish. I thought this was clearly Italian and called Chianti Classico.
