Full bodied pinot. Good, but not the best I've had (ala Sojourn Gap's Crown). This wine is full octane for a pinot. I liked the nose - after the pop, the wine was intoxicating. Five people after decanting into a decanter were playing "guess the varietal" and no one guessed Pinot Noir. The nose in this bottle is tremendous. Vanilla, sage, smoke, mixed with cassis. There were guesses ranging from cab to petit verdot but no one said PN. A pour into the glass was dark red with a hint of violet. On the nose in the glass was more smoke, some blackberry jam. The theme of this pinot noir is that its mystique is in the smoky nature of the wine. It's darker, it's more full bodied, it finishes stronger, longer, and with more tenacity and headiness than your typical pinot. And, it's already well integrated with some remote toasted oak but a lot of the tannin has already integrated. Has a nice earthy characteristic throughout, crescendo towards the mid-palate to finish. Not acidic, not dry, good pop and pour but this one was passed through a Vinturi and decanted for about 20 minutes before making its first public offering. This wine can hold its own or can be enjoyed with food - this was enjoyed with a grilled chicken salad with balsamic vinaigrette, and the dressing and chicken really complemented the wine.
