Pop and Pour straightaway. Color is a brilliant, crystalline garnet - I 'm already excited. Aromas a reticent at first, but with just a minute in the glass, this is in fine form, with aromas of red and purple floral, soil, and a basket of red fruits - cherry, strawberry, a touch of cool raspberry. The medium-bodied palate reveals everything I look for in a wine: elegance, structure and balance. Cool red fruits follow the aromas to the palate; the acids caress and lift in unison, providing an ideal foil to the fine, sweet tannins. No surprise here, the finish is confident, though understated as many things elegant often are. By the final third of the bottle, this had really opened up, gained yet another level of finesse; I was very happy with my serendipitous cellar selection. Days later, as I write this note, I'm still smiling - that's what fond memories do to me. In its preferred plateau, now and for the next 10-12 years. Just lovely. 13,0% abv. highly recommended
Sella's top bottle packs the density of Barolo into the body of alto Piemonte (with softer tannins); rich extract of cherry with that eucalyptus/menthol/licorice quality of evergreen needles in an alpine forest; probably not a wide audience for this wine, but well-made and with plenty of life left

Early bricking. Fragrant, deep cherry scents. A rich, yet balanced mouthful of black cherry, a dusting of cocoa powder, and a touch of licorice. Medium acidity and fine balance. Although many of Tenuta Sella's bottlings have trended toward the international palate, this retains a traditional style. (Maturation: 48 months in 25 hectoliter neutral Slavonian oak barrels)
Compared to many of the other alto Piemonte wines, this comes off as richer, more structured, and more ideally built for longer term aging. Coming into 12 years of age, this bottle is starting to hit its stride, and will likely improve over the next 5 years. Worth a try if you can find it.
The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like coffee. The body is medium/full. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity.

TN: Syrahs, Chards, and Turkish food in NYC +; 1/25/2013-1/26/2013 (Sip Sak): Lyle Fass stopped by even though he was under the weather. He brought this. I had no idea what it was, but it is very good. Later I thought he said it was nebbiolo, so I assume Piedmont or maybe Lombardy? The nose has dusty cherries with a bit of anise. On the palate, this is soft showing developed layering. complex but still with plenty of vibrant cherry fruit. Nice acidity. I liked this wine very much and will need to look into it. Thanks.
