  • Black ink color, so dense it shows like a black hole. The nose immediately opens and shows youthfulness and freshness. Very distinct and unique elements of wet oil paint, blackberry berry compote, concentrated berry cluster, hints of prune and earth. Touch of effervescence upon pouring which is an incredible unique feature of the recioto wine, which lends this desert wine to be relatively light on its feet and fresh. The palate was rather straight forward. Hints of pen ink, complex berry juice, some earth, tobacco and coco element. Shockingly not overbearing and heavy which is what makes this wine truly unique and one of a kind. I cannot compare this wine to any other as it melds together many different wine styles into one bottle. If you can find a bottle and feel like splurging on something completely one of a kind this wine delivers.

  • No simple words can be used to describe this wine. It is a wine that is now 35 years old and I can imagine it drinking well for another 30 years easily. I urge anyone who can find a bottle of this precious wine to snatch it up before the already very few bottles left of it disappear. The 1980 vintage a good one but by no means outstanding. And yet, this wine blew me away more than the 1990 Riserva and 1983 Gran Riserva. Quintarelli may have passed away but his soul lives on forever in the wines he so carefully crafted.
