  • A nose of dark fruits and chocolate, dark purple in color. A medium to full bodied port, with black cherry, chocolate and spice on finish, very good for 24 years ago. www.winelx.com

  • This was delicious, better than expected. My last of these, this is laid back and more delicate than I expected but still has some precision and showing nice structure without too much overt sweetness. Showing its age well. Not as dramatic or flamboyant as some ports but more approachable and easygoing. 92+pts.

  • Very youthful dark purple still with just a hint of garnet out at the rim. Super clean nose of figs, dark fruits, minerals and a hint of tar. Only medium weight but no lack of concentration and delicious dark fruit flavours. On the drier side of the port spectrum (which suits me) and with a bit of raw spirit poking out on the finish really the only blemish. This is a delicious and thoroughly enjoyable glass of wine. Drinking very well now but clearly not about to roll over yet either. Fabulous value at £23 per bottle from Goedhuis.

I am drinking more port these days and am finding some really good value in these single quintas. Back label says that only one quarter of the estate's total port production in 1999 made it into the grand vin.

  • good port wine, delicious fruit, alcohol is balanced

  • Notes parallel to those I posted nearly four years ago on this wine except that the flavors are a bit more developed with added depth to the toffee and caramel flavors, without distracting from the fruit. This will continue to gain complexity over the next 5-10 years. Still long, smooth, well-balanced and delicious, this absolutely knocks it out of the park in the QPR category. I cannot believe that this cost just $25. It would compete well with Ports double the price.
