  Decanted- immediate earthy black cherry nose. Candied cherries and anise combine for a “cherry root beer” palate with some sour cherry notes and leathery tannins. Tannins still slightly bitter like wet wood- reminded me of moist mesquite chips in a smoker. Acidity seems lighter but nice finish and fade. Eventually develops from “dark cherry root beer” to “bright cherry ludens cough drops”. IMO fairly simple; doesn't reach the richness and depth of the 2004 and hasn't really developed with age. A tad too modern, can’t see adding more. Overall B (85).

  Decant this ahead of time, at least 3 hours, to give it plenty of time to show well. Once it does, you will get plenty of bright black cherry, anise, earthy tar, hints of cacao and florals, a leathery finish and a peppery aftertaste. It has a masculine, bold style and plenty of tannic structure, with the tannins leathery and chewy. Can easily drink now with some air time but feels like it still has a few more years of cellar time if you can afford to wait.
  
  It has developed quite a bit since my first bottle back in 2012 so I am feeling a B+ (87) style and quality evaluation. I don't think it's going to be as good as the 2004 but it is still available at $32 / bottle from vine2home, which is a decent price for a wine with some time yet (B+ / 88 value).
  
  Overall evaluation B+ (87).

Nice hints of cherry fruit on the nose along with some earth but no more. Going to keep this laying down for quite a bit longer before I open my next bottle.

  In de geur bosgrond, zwart fruit, truffel en anijs.
  Elegante smaak zoals de geur met mooie zuren en lichte tannines en met een mooie lange afdronk.
