I'm making notes on night two, but night one showed it in better light, imho. Smoke and sort of a pomegranate tea (definitely with tea-like tannins) dominate the palette, with a hint of vegetal unpleasantness. It took me a while to "place" the nose. Imagine a more honestly smelling version of IHOP's blueberry syrup topping and you've got it. Overpriced at Las Vegas whole foods, but would be a great deal at $15-16.

Not decanted, consumed over 1 1/2 hours. Richard Jennings' note from 3/26/2012 nails it: this is a lean, tart, dense wine with notes of smoke and currants dominating and just a little something green and woody in the background. Not bad, in the end, but not near ready in my estimation. I don't have enough experience with Chinon to provide an opinion on where it's going, but wherever that is, I bet it takes a while to get there.

Quite a bit more vegetal and mushroom-y than the bottle I had last year. Asparagus and mushroom are the dominate notes on the nose, but the palate has nice subtle streak of fruit and minerality. Tannins have softened considerably. Overall would like the flavors on the nose to be more balanced.

Fantastic mineral driven Chinon with spiced, meaty tones, plum and currant, black pepper, warm green herbs, smoke, and chewy tannins.
