Community Tasting Notes (2)

  • Weissburgunder kabinett, improbably from the chilly Coast Range in Oregon. What else do you want to know? Tasty and true, 9%, impeccably balanced, though not as electric as last year's bottle. What else? I think this was the vintage where raccoons reached under the bird netting and took much of the (late) harvest, thus the half bottle size.

  • A late-ish harvest wine that's watery in the best sense: it's limpid, unassuming, and rings with church bell clarity. The acidity is simultaneously edgy and gentle – it somehow doesn't call undue attention to itself despite the fact that it can slice a tin can *like this* – and the wine ultimately registers on my palate as halbtrocken, with eccentric peach flavors. It's a flexible and fascinating dinner companion that deserves a few more years in its little 375ml bottle to evolve.
