  • I still really dislike the label. This is getting much more interesting. Last year there was a lot of herbal and provencal characteristics upfront but they faded away upon opening. This time around the herbs, flowers, and conifers on the nose carry through on the palate. The palate shows rose petal, allsspice, licorice, and pine cone. The fruits are blackberry and cranberry. Long finish. Would go a treat with lamb.

  • The nose is terrific. Hedonistic, raspberry spicyness with some herbs. I thought 'candy shop' right away. Palate: serious red fruits. Very concentrated and focused mid-palate with strawberries and raspberries. Initially there was a minerality, herbal quality (mint; it reminded me of those clove cigarettes that people smoke) but this blew off (unfortunately). Day 2, fruit still shining, very little pepper or oak influence noticeable. Not savoury enough for me to go gaga but I'm happy to stick 6 bottles away to see how she goes. This is a Robert Parker 94, Jay Miller 95. For me, it's a 91, which on the scale I use is the low end of 'outstanding.' This is a good deal for under $25 in Australia as I'm sure it's better than 90% of the syrah/shiraz made in this style.
