  • So fresh and balanced given the vintage especially

  • Served double blind. Obviously nebbiolo on the nose, and the tannic structure on the finish certainly confirms the grape. There is a pronounced delicacy and juiciness to the fruit here that is absolutely alluring, but also speaks of a ripe vintage, executed brilliantly. There is, however, just a hint of harshness and bitterness on the tannins that keeps this from being elevated to a higher level. (In hindsight, a brilliant wine that drinks far about the level that's stated on the label.) As far as guesses go, I had originally thought Conterno (there is only one, by the way) was a good choice, but found the fruit a little more light-footed than I would have expected. In the end, I ended up guessing Burlotto (either Barolo DOCG or Acclivi) from 2009 or 2011.

  • This wine was almost enjoyable except for the immense greenness that intensified as the bottle sat out.

I guess it depends on how critical you are of wines – many people would enjoy this wine if they aren't paying attention to what they're drinking; but if you have any expectations at all, or are going to open it alongside another quality bottle, this will surely disappoint – especially coming from Conterno.

I probably made the mistake of drinking it next to some other very high quality Italian reds.

With that said, other than the really prominent green vegetative characteristics, it was pleasant.

Overall – Because of the greenness, I did not like and would not recommend.

Update: This appears to be an unusual tasting note for this bottle, and it may have been considered "flawed".

  • I had heard that this was a big mess of a vineyard and I was pleasantly surprised that this was very elegant and restrained. Alcohol was high but integrated. Not Cascina Francia but for Langhe a terrific effort.

  • 60 minute slo-o. Very well made wine that will rival some Baroli from the vintage. Enticing fruity and terroir-laden bouquet with a medium-bodied palate that has excellent focus and finesse. A wine one would expect from Roberto Conterno.
