  • This wine shows some problems with the Parker approach. Decanted off of a bit of sediment. Bricky ruby color. Nice nose of red cherries, cedar, leather. Medium-bodied and lively on the palate, with rich flavors, but it's pretty intense and a bit hot at 15.5 ABV. Finishes with drying, raking, rather strong but velvety tannins that smoothed out after awhile in the glass. Wine Advocate gave this wine 93 points, called it "stunning" and gave maturity dates as 2012-2016. Well here it is mid-2015 and I see problems. Alc. heat seems to overshadow this wine's other very good characteristics. Right now it's interesting but not by any means great or stunning.

  • No notes, but this came across a bit too heavy / new-world, very fruit forward and the fruit was dense. I think it's a matter of what kind of style you like and I think those who love a more restrained, old-world style may be put off a bit, as I was, by the weight of this 15.5% abv rendition. Still, I will say it is enjoyable and my guess is that it is drinking well right now and may not gain much from more bottle age.

  • This Central Coast Nebbiolo weighs in at 15.5% abv. It was PnP a few nights ago, just got around to pouring another glass fothe TN tonite.
Med ruby at the core, fading to a light brick/tawny rim.
The nose of this Nebbiolo is developing, showing off med intensity "sweet-tart" cherry aromas, raspberry, and with some prune juice and wet soil to boot.
The palate shows a full bodied wine, that is quite tart on initial presentation, and even comes off a tad sweet, but this is just the alcohol talking. I don't get any heat from the alcohol, but the wine is fruit forward, showing it's new world roots, echoing tart and slightly unripe cherry skin, along with sweet strawberry just underneath that facade. There is a vanilla and spice flavor as well, sitting on top of the still-quite-firm, med intensity tannins, along with the med to med+ acidity, making this a puckeringly tart red wine. The sweetness from all the fruit keeps the tartness from being overwhelming. I actually really enjoy and like the interplay of tart and ripe. The finish is med to med+ and echoes all these flavors.
This is a very good quality wine, better than I would've expected, since it is a Central Coast Nebbiolo, for crying out loud. This is still a serious wine, and it still has a lot of good drinking ahead of it. I'd say it will continue to integrate and improve for a few more years in the bottle, and could still drink well through 2018 or so, and I think that is being cautious. Likely would drink through 2024. Very nice.

  • Seemed a little disjointed to me last night. The tannins were on the astringent side. I thought that this would be in a good place, but it tasted like it is either a long way away from being ready to drink or in a weird place right now.
