  • Big cherry kirsh. Not much locality, but for $6, good price on pizza pinot.

  • Went to buy a case of the 2008 only to see that it had been replaced with the 2009. Bummer; missed the boat on the '08! Figured I'd give this a whirl to see how it compared. Pop and poured. The aromas are quite big and thick, with just a hint of alcohol. This doesn't have the graceful red berries of the previous vintages. Things are toning darker in complexion, with almost some macerated black raspberries and thick, fairly heavy toasted oak aromas. This smells as much like a light bodied Syrah as it does Pinot Noir. The palate shows similar spices, but a generic wineniness, tasting like pizza crust and sweet oak. Really bitter and alcoholic on the finish.. quite harsh, and as this goes down my throat it's pretty gross, really. Sickly sweet oak flavors dominate with out the fruit muster to hold things together. This is more what I would expect from a wine at this price point, made by Oak Knoll... not the overachiever this was in the previous two, cooler weather years. Those last two years were steals, and this is just not palatable.
