Quite closed - a few notes of toasted almond, marzipan and a pleasantly lemony aroma. Much more interesting and unconventional on the palate - none of that stereotypical creaminess and vanilla that's perhaps such an easy pleasure formula for New World Chardonnay. Instantly there's an unctuous thickness to this - almost like a porter or a stout in texture but without the fizz - and a dominant note of fudge, with a slightly bitter finish. Overtones of apricot and cinnamon or cassia bark. Some characteristics of Viognier without the peachiness and heavy opulence. Very good, but would be truly impressive with an aromatic profile to match the flavours, and perhaps a more pronounced acidity. Not cheap for what it is, but unquestionably a good wine.

Diamandes Chardonnay Mendoza 2010 White flowers, apricot, some citric fruits too. Even pineapples. Great concentration. Very smooth. Wood is very well integrated. Very elegant with a beautiful long finish. 91
