Xmas eve. Perfect wine for the occasion. Showing its age for sure. Nutty, almond, oxidized. Still enough bubbles and acid to be alive. Yeasty and like munchin on a loaf of bread. 2004 was such a great year in champagne. Haven't has a bad one yet. Drink now.

Drank this alongside the 08, and the extra age definitely showed. This had a nice rich oxidative character, with loads of nutty fruit. On the palate, good acidity, lovely bubbles that add a dark tinge to the rich nutty flavors. A very nice wine.

Dinner at Pizzeria Bebu (Chicago, IL): Beautiful tete-de-cuvee champagne -- it's quite identifiable as such. It's a broad and expansive champagne, clearly with a lot of dosage, and a palate-filling richness that is very nice. It's got the acids to back it up, and those acids are necessary because of the creaminess on the palate here. Perhaps at the end of the day it doesn't quite live up to something like Doms Perignon or Ruinart, but it is still a fairly good champagne.

The colour is an elegant golden straw yellow with amber highlights. Its aromas are radiant, revealing bright yellow-fleshed fruits (apple, pear, yellow peach), honey, floral nuances (lime blossom) and elegant blond notes (brioche and fresh nuts). The palate is seductive, richly flavorful and smooth combining generosity and subtlety, fullness and vigour, followed by a delicately fresh crispiness (fruit with seeds), to reveal the magical balance of Champagne.

Oxidative. Apple, malt, touch of pineapple, green peppercorn, slightly salty. Big. Not my style. One glass is enough, a bit of a meal in and of itself.
