Pale straw colour. A lovely Riesling bouquet with a whiff of kero, lime juice, minerals and river boulders, acacia and daisy flowers ... The bouquet suggests acids and dryness and you get that on palate after a big sugar hit upfront. This is a high residual sugar Riesling (67 g/l RS) but I don't mind that ... there's also fairly driven, sparkling acids and minerality. Also limes, honey, peaches and greengages on palate. Nice viscous texture. Good weight and balance. Good length. Alcohol at 9%. With this acid spine, I'd expect the Riesling to be quite long lived. It'd be interesting to open a bottle in another 10 years ... Finished two days later ... quite a dramatic change. The sweetness on bouquet and palate have receeded. The palate has moved more lime juice and preserved lemons. Very nice.

Others thought the balance was wonderful, but like the 2009 tried last year, I found the sweetness overpowered any freshness it had. Certainly packed full of flavour, I just couldn't get past the odd sensation of undissolved sugar flowing through my mouth.

Riesling Rampage (Asquith, Australia): Lemon, hay and mixed spices. Great lift on the off-dry palate from the acid structure. Very good length.
