  • Pale straw colour. A lovely Riesling bouquet with a whiff of kero, lime juice, minerals and river boulders, acacia and daisy flowers ... The bouquet suggests acids and dryness and you get that on palate after a big sugar hit upfront. This is a high residual sugar Riesling (67 g/l RS) but I don't mind that ... there's also fairly driven, sparkling acids and minerality. Also limes, honey, peaches and greengages on palate. Nice viscous texture. Good weight and balance. Good length. Alcohol at 9%. With this acid spine, I'd expect the Riesling to be quite long lived. It'd be interesting to open a bottle in another 10 years ... Finished two days later ... quite a dramatic change. The sweetness on bouquet and palate have receeded. The palate has moved more lime juice and preserved lemons. Very nice.

  • Others thought the balance was wonderful, but like the 2009 tried last year, I found the sweetness overpowered any freshness it had. Certainly packed full of flavour, I just couldn't get past the odd sensation of undissolved sugar flowing through my mouth.

  • Riesling Rampage (Asquith, Australia): Lemon, hay and mixed spices. Great lift on the off-dry palate from the acid structure. Very good length.
