  • The Australians, the Chileans, and of course, the French like to mix Cabernet with Merlot. To me, there is no doubt, the blend is better than the individual varietals, at least with Jacobs Creek. It is not hard to perceive the enhancing contributions from each varietal, especially if you get a chance to try those varietals, by this producer, stand alone. Though by no means complex, this wine exhibits an interesting ripe plum, blackberry and cherry flavor with some enhancing, non fruit flavors like cola, black licorice, road tar and vanilla. Just barely medium bodied. Not intense, but still full flavored. Dark purple color. Not much oak. A little bit of malic acid. As the wine gets more air, we get get some considerable tannins. Plummy, graphite finish.
