  • Smells like a vanilla bean and tastes like a purple cow. Way too much creamy oak covering what I think could otherwise be some nice syrah. Just can't get past it. Too bad. I have one more and will try to wait a couple years and see what happens. For now, though, big thumbs down.

  • Gave a full six hours in the decanter. Deep ruby and purple red in the glass. Concentrated nose of red berries, some smokey herbs and subtle spice. On the palate things feel refined and subdued, like the wine is only delivering 70% of what one might expect out of a fine Napa Syrah Rhone style blend (Syrah 70%, Grenache 18%, Mouvedre 7%, Carignane 2%, Peloursin 2%, Viognier 1%). There is a rich mellow and balanced fruit base, with enough tannin not to fall flat. But overall we are a bit underwhelmed. Again, this just feels a little sleepy. PJG-87
