Monthly group Holiday tasting (Il Foro): I got a small pour of this at a holiday tasting. This was Burgundian. Rocks and red fruit. Definitely well-integrated and complex, but I would not have guessed the age or that it was from an American producer.
Edit - I initially put my note on the wrong wine and scored it 93, without knowing that my 2 wine comrades both gave it a 93 as well from the same bottle. I think this is a testament that we all know how to call it.

1 day later (note from memory). Still quite dark. Rustic, earthy plummy red and black fruited aromas. Meaty palate of hoisin, charred oak and a bet of heavy metal from the age. Smooth finish. This has aged well and I'll start searching for old Martin Ray for my cellar.

Annual Tasting Group Holiday Party (Il Foro, Mpls, MN): Light-medium red color. Drank 1 glass over 30 minutes. I think Mike Z's note is pretty spot on. I loved this. Had no expectations going in and this was wonderfully aged and nuanced. The fruit was still lively with dried berries and cherry on top of the deeply earthiness, good acid, floral elements and mineral character. Thanks, that was eye opening.
