Tasted along side an Aberfeldy 2010. Both wines under screw cap and unfortunately both wines were not showing, all descriptors heavily muted. Difficult to tell however I suspect both suffered from low levels of sulfur dioxide. Both had been stored under cellar conditions too.
3 hour decant to draw out this beautiful wine. Lovely black fruit and a perfume on the nose. The wine is balanced and integrated tannins. Seemless. Fruit there plus some savoury and meaty component but nothing overpowering. Its not too rich like a Big Barossa Shiraz from Marananga. Its elegant and has a long finish. It does not last long in the glass due to its deliciousness. Will last for another decade at least.

Appearance: Bright and clear, the wine is of deep ruby colour, with thin garnet rim and legs. Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of black fruit of blackberry, cassis, plum and dark cherries, oak notes of vanilla, kernel notes of chocolate, sweet spice of clove, pungent spice of black pepper, maturity notes of forest floor. The wine is developing. Palate: Dry with medium acidity, the wine has high tannin of ripe and velvety texture, medium (+) alcohol, full body, with medium (+) flavours of black fruit of cassis, blackberry, plum, oak notes of vanilla, kernel notes of chocolate, sweet spice of nutmeg. The wine has a medium finish. Conclusion: Very good quality Clare Valley Shiraz with an intense nose showing great complexity, with a swarm of black fruit characters supplemented by other aromas, the wine is powerful but well-balanced, with good concentration and a reasonable length on the finish. It is ready to drink now though can further develop for another 3-5 years.
medium depth garnet, slight purple hue, even colour. ripe dark plum, mild pepper in nose. round and balanced. good weight and strength, heavy but supple tannins, wrapped well with smooth texture, rich creamy chocolate and cedar flavours lingering long.
a charming Clare Valley Shiraz, showing nice structure and complexity, just at peak. 24 months in new American oak. JH 90, HH 94
