Community Tasting Notes (1) Avg Score: 86 points

  • We have tasted through 3 vintages of this value priced Chenin Blanc/Chardonnay blend on the past 3 months, and each one gets better. This 2011 is definitely young. The acid is young and sharp, almost to the point where I might recommend some aging. How often do we score a $4 wine 86 points? There is actually some depth and structure, The color is quite clear. The nose is pretty interesting for a wine in this price point, exhibiting a noble amount of earthy, wet sandstone and spice, with a whiff of jasmine. There are some of those hard to describe South American fresh cut root flavors and aromas. Complex enough that fruit is not the driving flavor characteristic, there is a more balanced approach. Once the pretty pronounced acid passes the lips, there is a nice and pretty pronounced hit of banana on the palate. As we drink down the lass, things get even more interesting with even some brown spice complimenting the acid. Medium bodied. There is some of that sour milk acid flavor on the back of the palate. The finish is honeysuckle swimming in acid. Very much an overachiever.
