Well this is a pleasant surprise. Double decanted. Plenty of cedar, cigar box, mint over crunchy blackcurrant, sweet spice, the palate shows a little red currant note here as well as a touch of black liquorice to join the blackcurrant. tannins are drying, woody but relatively softly textured. A little plain chocolate completes the picture. Rather nice with slow cooked beef casserole.

Deep red. No age on edges at all. Nose of cigar box, tobacco, plum, prune, ground coffee, cocoa, earth. Palate very similar with stronger, riper plum notes. Mouthfeel is rich and long - lively and ripe. Will go another 5-10 years easily. Excellent, delicious.

New Zealand vs The rest of the world; 12/31/2016-1/1/2017 (My house): Deep crimson, cassis, herbs and a whiff of smoke. Palate tastes a little stalky and green, bit more smoke and some dark fruit. Depth and length better than its stablemate but lacks the elegance and true varietal expression.
