Part of a fun Chenin Blanc dinner with no restrictions to location and wine style. Needless to say all the wines were very different and exemplified the versatility of Chenin to make high-quality wine. Not a good apple to apple comparison but very enjoyable. Listed from lightest to fullest body.
Radford dale renaissance 2019- (Fresh, Citrus, and saltiness) Pineapple, mineral, and citrus notes. Energetic and zippy. Tart and bitter aftertaste. Relative to the other wines it was lacking structure, body, and finish. This wine is best enjoyed chilled and was bitter as it warmed. In my opinion, good if you’re looking for something bold and acidic to brighten the palette or as an aperitif. (This wine was our least favorite of the evening, lacking the quality and balance of the other wines, but definitely good enough to get the juices flowing)
Poil de lievre 2022- (Biodynamic wine) Funky and slight fizz-ness at start. Smelled and tasted like leaves and meadow. Good minerals, grapefruit, good acidity and honey notes. Subtle oak character, very crisp. Easy to drink and very refreshing. Would recommend if you’re looking for a fun and refreshing wine! (This wine was our third favorite of the evening, interesting, fun, and lively wine, excellent acidity)
Belargus Quarts san appellation Anjou controlee Rochefort sur loire 2018- (Loire Chenin Blanc)- Great finesse and elegance. Good structure. Subtle honey and oak notes. Refreshing aroma of tropical fruit. Melon, apricot, and nuts. Quite a beautiful wine, less intense and concentrated than the FMC but was more delicate and very pleasant to drink.
FMC 2010 – Had the pleasure to have this wine again. This wine is excellent room temperature and really opens up. Compared to the rest of the lineup it showed full body, concentrated, buttery mouth feel, complexity and power. This is my WOTN however I liked the Belargus a lot as well. The two wines are very different. One is elegant and beautiful whereas the FMC is decadent and rich. I would recommend both.

13 years old and still great vibrancy and freshness. Creamy, nutty, stone fruit, peach, apricot and a intoxicating hint of sweetness. 10 minutes in glass and it really started singing. Incredibly long finish. Reminiscent of Burgundy with honey, and buttery mouth feel. Drinking beautifully right now. F*cking magical chenin indeed.

A wonderful wine, 10 years old, original and ripe. Intense gold color. Creamy in the glass. Nose: walnut, caramel, mango. In the mouth: creamy, a little residual sugar, tastes like a dry Sauternes (botrytis), moscato, honey, mango. Complex. Intense, long and a bit toasty. Delicious.
