I don't think many people will see this note, because most of the action seems to be on the "regular" bottling, not the Cuvee Unique. Not sure what the difference is, except North Berkeley claims they handpick barrels of the finished wine. This opened kind of flat, and I worried that it was in a dumb phase. After it had been open for a little while, it blossomed, figuratively, giving off aromas of violets and lavender. This has a nice savory quality, with a decent dose of fruit as well, a great combo of slightly meaty character and plum flavors. I'm not re-upping on CdP much these days, but at the right price I would be back for more in this style. Not overdone or hot, just solid and enjoyable.

North Berkeley Wines New Release Tasting (Presidio Golf Course, San Francisco): Medium red. Already with complex array of tobacco and licorice aromatics and flavors. Medium weight, dry, penetrating and powerful in the mouth. You feel more than taste the fruit, but no shortage of ripeness here. It is just superbly balanced by strong acidity. Classically savory Chateauneuf without being overbearing.

Licorice, blueberry, raspberry, logonberry, slight pepper, dried herbs, lovely ripe fruit but not jammy, clay minerality; medium + body, silky texture but excellent extract, serious tannins; Fantastic balance and structure, good medium finish. Can't wait to try this in 5 years.
