  • Unscrewed & poured.

Good nose, florals come to the fore. Whole bunch ferment?

Palette muted upon initial taste. A little underwhelming and somewhat flabby.

With time & air, wine began to show itself. Cool climate herbaceousness with white pepper, cherry & a touch (sour) plum. Some bitterness on the finish.

May still be a little underdeveloped in bottle and drinking a little young (for my tastes).

Look forward to next bottle, but will be giving it a good decant.

  • Great purple/red colour. For some reason I wasn't as impressed with this as I thought I would be. Florals on the nose, along with distinct pepper and a melange of berries and cherries. Same on the palate but with italian herbs, minerals and glossy vanilla oak. It just seemed to lack a bit seriousness or compexity to me. It might have been the mood I was in but I wanted more thrust!

  • Blind Pinot Tasting: Raspberry, cherry, licorice, violets and a real floral lift. Bright, with plenty of pepper on the palate, finishes quite long. Has time on its side to improve, I thought this was really promising.

  • Notes taken 2nd day. First day I wasn't so sure as it was noticeably darker, intense and had a stronger aniseed element than the 09 (which I thought was fantastic). I thought it was like a mix between Petaluma Merlot and an Adelaide Hills Shiraz due to the peppery aspect (Lobethal rd especially)

Day 2 it was still dark and had a slightly bitter stemmy aniseed aftertaste but overall WOW. Slinky, smooth, cool on the tongue. White pepper, mulchy herbs, dark cherry, lots of brambly black berries, black current a little blue jubes. It's the smooth silky quality paired with the mouth watering green toffee apple acid and the coolness on the tongue that make this an outstanding wine. A powerful cool climate wine. I may slightly prefer the 09 as a drink but this is a great wine. Better on the 2nd night.
