Funky and earthy nose with some smoke, soy and animale. The savoury character carries onto the palate, there isn't much fruit to it but there is good interest. Drink now.

Quite worked in style - pineapple, oak and some mealy character. Rich on the palate, this is in a drink now style as I don't think the structure is there to carry it much longer.

Smoke, sweet raspberry fruit and oak on the nose. Palate is similar, but it really lacks depth and length.

Kirsch, smoke and some spice aromas. Plenty of sappy character along with red fruits and good acidity on the palate. Think this needs drinking in the not too distant future.

Very pretty nose, with florals, cherry, peach and a touch of stem and musk. The palate is refined and lithe with just a lick of red fruit that courses through to the finish. Very impressive.

Ashtray and raspberry. Little depth and structure. Not for me.

Cherry, floral perfume, plum and restrained garrigue notes. Very well balanced, there is a restraint that I admire but also a lovely bright core of red fruits. Great length, this is a super wine in any context.

Olive and cedat with stemmy notes as well. Good acidity and drive to the palate, but the depth feels to be lacking a bit. Quite possibly a reflection of the vintage.

Graphite, menthol/minty character and some red fruit spectrum aromas. Palate is brightly fruity and has nice acidity that helps, maybe with the fruit just falling away a touch earlier than would be preferred. Still good.

Earthy with some violets and some spice. Well balanced but not particularly deep or long. Has some aged character coming through and I'm not sure it will live over the medium term so drink in the next few years I think.

Some mint, cherry and medicinal character and strawberry bubblegum. Some nicely rich fruit on the palate that carries well. The medicinal element isn't too distracting and the bubblegum is a character that I always associate with this producer so that may sway your opinion depending on where you fall.

Badly past it.

Tar, cinnamon and cherry with some star anise as well. The palate is forward and a little too forceful for my liking, teetering on the edge of being unbalanced. Not nearly up to the standard of a previous bottle 5-6 years ago, but I have one left so will try again in a few years when hopefully it has calmed back down.

Musk and cherry with a light mineral note. The palate struggles to assert interesting characters, though there is a bit of showy fruit. Not up to the reputation of the producer.

Served blind. Truffle, floral, earthy, spicy and with nicely integrated oak in the background. The structure is superb and the fruit is up to the task and as a result this is a wine with beautiful balance. Brimming with class, this is drinking beautifully now but will of course age excellently.

Kirsch, cinnamon, licorice and some oak. The acidity on the palate is at the same time impressive and maybe a little bit too full on. Needs time, but at this stage I found it hard to like.

Mossy, earthy and stemmy. Bright with good acidity persisting. Has held up well and will drink over the next couple of years nicely.

Cherry and bright strawberry with plum and oak influence. The fruit is very structured but there is immediate vibrancy and appeal as well. Tasty but has potential over the short term to improve.

Perfumed with meaty spices, licorice and strawberry. The palate is structured and the fruit is quite restrained, with more of the spice and savoury character showing. Medium length - a bit more length would see the wine soar.

Smoky, tea leaves, black cherry fruit. Nice tannin presence with red and black fruit intermingling. Very good wine.

Licorice and raspberry. Rich fruit palate and leans towards the sweet fruit side of things, though some tannins just drag it back into line. Good but not great.

Raspberry, cherry, licorice, violets and a real floral lift. Bright, with plenty of pepper on the palate, finishes quite long. Has time on its side to improve, I thought this was really promising.

Redskins, licorice and some oak. Very sweetly fruited, there is good acidity that drags the fruit along. Medium length.

Earthy with some cherry, leaf and chocolate. Tannins provide good grip and the fruit gives it a fresh lift. Nicely driven and precise.

Clay, kirsch, mocha and spice with some graphite and charcoal too. Plenty of fruit left on the palate and there is plenty of time left to drink this! Complex and bright at the same time, really lovely.

Charcoal, coffee and caramel with cherry and some stalk. Medium bodied, it isn't super long but it is resolved and far from simple. Drink now.

Chocolate, cherry/kirsch and licorice, plus some thyme and pencil shavings. The palate shows off some flashy rich fruit that is brought into line by good tannins and acidity.

Ginger and quince with orange peel and a floral note. Great freshness on the palate thanks to bracing acidity that is nicely surrounded by a richness and lingering sweetness. Beautiful.

Sea spray, oak and iodine. The palate has impact and while there is initial heat it calms down across the length and finishes with richness and depth. Really quite good.

Toast and lemon, with some truffle. Quite powerful palate, probably more muscular/brutish than the 2004 that I also like but in a different style. Good length as well. Should develop nicely.
