decanted, and served at optimum temperature under difficult conditions. tasted side-by-side the cork sealed version of this wine purchased on release directly from the winery in a two pack OWC. double blind to everyone but me, the provider. both wines smelled the same, and a couple of tasters identified the wine(s) as oakville cabs, but then the confusion set in. this screw capped wine tasted younger, displayed more noticable tannin, and didn't have the richly defined expressive fruit of the cork version, which led to some lively debate about the vintages being different. one taster said they were the same wine, different vintages. so the conclusions were the stelvin retarded developmental aging, allowed the tannin to retain more grip, and the fruit to taste younger (and to me, sweeter). both bottles performed well, all you can ask for in such an experiment. i can't recall this taste test being recorded previously anywhere on the net, and would welcome the opportunity to learn i am wrong about this, or to see subsequent side-by-side results. both bottles were delicious.

Campared next to the 97 with a cork inclouser, very interesting. Drank younger with more noticable tannins, brighter fruit and less secondary nuances again with Dark red fruits, hints of vanilla/Tabacco with more tannin than the cork enclouser.

Blind Night (Mattias): Dark ruby color. Earthy blackberry nose. Tastes of blackberry, currant, leather and earth. Teeth gripping tannins. Vanilla oak treatment. Rich, powerful finish. Quite young. Blind tasted both 1997 Plumpjack Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve's under screwcap and cork against each other. Correctly identified Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon for both but thought they were from different producers. The cork version being more evolved and complex. A very interesting comparison especially blind. Provided by Jeff.

(Plumpjack Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve (Stelvin Closure)) Nearly opaque red violet color; ripe, plush berry, cassis, menthol nose; tight, ripe cassis, raspberry palate with integrated oak and firm sweet tannins, needs 3-4 years; medium-plus finish 91+ points (bottle C: we preferred this to the cork sealed version in a blindtasting)
3/1/2013 - jinks Does not like this wine: 85 Points
Tasted blind among some heavy hitter reds.
rated lower third
Blind -
I didn't get much out of this wine. Muted, seemed somewhat oxidized.
I did, however, like the '97 cork closure wine.
