  • Cabernet Smackdown (Steve T's, Vernon Hills IL): nose: great depth with a real plush and balanced nose of red and black currants, red cherries, berries, a good amount of red fruits and some black licorice creeps in a slight bit. Very expressive and showing off a real class to it

taste: Well balanced with a polished medium/full feel and delicious tones of red cherries, berries, red fruits, black licorice, cedary tones, and a bit of pencil lead. Very good tannins still exist as this comes across rather youthful

overall: This wine seems like it can go a long way. Very well balanced and has a real pungent nose right now and a real great feel on the palate.

  • Karl Lawrence vertical ((wally's)): OMG! This is simply one of the best 97s I have had. Great alluring nose of Asian spices, fresh licorice, a great floral presences (perhaps lilac), and just a hint of barnyard. The nose was just singing. The palate was just so elegant with layer upon layer of flavor and a cashmere feel in the mouth. The balance was slightly off with it being just a touch on the heavy side with a bit of heat. Nonetheless this is a GREAT wine. Easily WOTF and possibly WOTN.

  • Karl Lawrence Vertical (wally's house, barrington IL): nose: big and pungent nose filled with anise, cranberry, blackberry, dark cherry, and various spice tones

taste: full and racy with spices, anise, dark cherry, blackberry, and raspberry

overall: very long and dense with bold and full flavors. Lucious attack with great weight that just moves across the palate. Excellent and well defined flavors that work in harmony with each other
