I've had this bottle for 13 years and honestly was a little worried about it spoiling but now almost regretting opening it because it was incredible and I don't have any more in stock. This is a superb big bodied almost jammy Syrah with deep burgundy color, spicy but fruity nose and a smooth, silky finish. It has a good abundance of oak but not to the extent wine drinkers who are not oak fans would be turned off it. There is a wonderful peppery tongue with hints of currants and vanilla and the tannins are soft.
I think 10 years is probably the perfect amount of time to drink this wine although 15 year vintage still ranked high in my books. This vineyard over the years continues to produce winning reds and the 1997 was truly one of their finest.
