Community Tasting Notes (2) Avg Score: 87.7 points

  • We decanted the wine for 90 minutes and consumed it over a period of another hour. It was dark ruby in colour and offered red and dark fruit, vegetal notes (dark green leaves), tobacco leaf, tobacco, espresso, chocolate and smoke on the nose. On the palate the wine showed red and dark fruit, tobacco, coffee, chocolate and vanilla, with medium-level acidity, medium to medium-plus, drying, slightly bitter tannin, some heat from the high alcohol (15% ABV) and very good length of the tobacco-dominated finish. The ripe, full-bodied wine had good concentration, but lacked harmony. The alcohol was less prominent than two years ago, but overall the wine seemed overdone and overoaked, and based on the dryness and slight bitterness I doubt that the wine will ever really balance out. Drink now and over the next three years. 88-

  • We poured the wine into a decanter and consumed it over a period of about one hour. It offered dark fruit, spices, tobacco, coffee, dark chocolate, smoke and a dark green leaves component on the nose. On the spicy palate the medium- to full-bodied wine showed red and dark fruit, red currant, black currant, blueberry, blackberry, a vegetal (dark green leave-like) component and some heat from the alcohol, with high acidity, medium-level tannin, a good mouthfeel and phenomenal length. A very good Pinotage that offered a good QPR. The exceptional length of the wine clearly stood out. If only the alcohol was in check... 88+
