  • Somewhat translucent and slightly developed cherry red color with moderate bricking towards the rim. Characterful, expressive and somewhat rustic nose with aromas of juicy black cherries, smoke, some umami notes of bacon and charred meat, a little bit of earth and an odd hint of soft-ripened cheese. The wine is medium-bodied, ripe and somewhat crunchy with flavors of ripe dark cherries, some plummy fruits, a little bit of meaty character, hints of earthy and smoky tones and again a touch of soft-ripened cheese. Good structure with high acidity and modest-to-medium tannins that contribute more to the texture than to the structure. The finish repeats the midpalate pretty verbating, especially accentuating the smoky tones and dark cherry fruit.

A somewhat odd Barbera. It's pretty good and crunchy with nice bright fruit, but especially that funky cheesy aroma confused me a bit. A nice everyday wine, but if looking through the Rivetto range for a weekday meal wine, I'd perhaps go for the Dolcetto instead.

  • Dark ruby, funky nose of char, blackberry and cassis, black fruit on the attack that turns lean on the mid-palate, finishes with plum, mocha and spice

  • Lean, but bright acid, typical Barbera. Nose a little closed, even after 2-3 hours. Flavors fairly one dimensional dominated by a tart raspberry and a hint of creme de cassis. Short finish. Pleasant enough but nothing to write home about...
