Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • First time tasting the '98 after having the '90 BdB from Doquet a number of times. For the record, BdBs rarely seem to move me. Transparent yellow in the glass, streaming bubbles, with restrained aromas of yellow fruit, some toast and yeast. Brighter on the palate with similar fruit flavors, yeast, some wood, a hint of carmel and butterscotch. Young and lacking depth, not much to the finish here -- I think it's simply a good but not a great wine that may improve with either extending aeration or cellar time, but I wouldn't count on it. Probably better to drink now with little expectation. As I often say, you get what you pay for. Heidsieck's wine from the same vintage dwarfs this stuff.
