Monthly tasting - Cabernet Sauvignon / Blends (JM (SL)): Tasted blind, this wine definitely got a few participants excited. Opaque. Blackcurrant topnote with expensive French oak seasoning, has a polished and textured flow with fine-boned tannins, intense blackcurrant, earth and graphite notes. It's luxurious and while it shows its 15.5% ABV slightly, it's overall reasonably balanced in its genre and fans of fuller-bodied wines will really enjoy this one. Cork. [CL]

Still has some blackcurrant fruit but the secondary and tertiary characters are stronger - a big nose and palate of cooling notes of eucalyptus and mint, dark chocolate, sweet vanilla oak. Velvety soft tannins and 15% alcohol according to the label but you don't notice it. Beautifully integrated. Great now but no need to rush to drink them, should comfortably last another 5yrs or more.
Unusually big for Clare Valley Cab Sauv but it's a great wine irrespective of being atypical.

At 10 years old it could easily go another 10 but I cant really see it developing any further. Initially there's a refreshing slice of lemon cheescake through the mid palate though that fades after an hour decant. Then you have a robustly built wine with a pleasantly chewy tannin but not a great deal of personality. There's nothing that makes you really want to come back for more other than perhaps a very nicely balanced texture. After 2 hours the texture advances again and takes on a caressing creaminess.
That said I bet you could blindfold someone, tell them this was a $200 Napa Cab Sav and they'd tell you how great it was.

Delicious, certainly not past it peak.
Bottle was opened 3 hours prior but not decantered before consumption
