This is my first Blaufrankisch, so I don't have much to hold this experience too, but this is excellent. A round, singing, full wine with a verbose cast of characters and richness in many corners. Nooks and crannies full of nuance. Hearty and energetic. Crisp initial boldness is balanced by delicate perfumes and concentrated jellies. Satisfying and complete.

Nose is a little sharp but has nice blackberry, soil, brighter red cherry and a slightly medicinal edge. Palate is petite but quite tasty, though quite different from the nose. Lots of dried cherry and cranberry, a touch of warmth in a slightly baked fruit note, some pleasing gentle bitterness on the front and back, medium acid, low-medium tannin, decent finish. Dry and quite light but nicely made - great Thanksgiving wine. 13%, $18.

(Weingut Glatzer Blaufränkisch) Dark red violet color; pepper, tart red berry, charcoal nose; pepper, tart red berry, charcoal, toast palate; medium-plus finish
(Glatzer Blaufränkisch) ($18.00) It starts off smelling literally like toast. Like the smell when you know the toast is done. It’s wonderfully articulate yet warm, sunlight on the weeds; veal stock over the sautéed leek and fennel, rusky and with a nuance of caraway. (+)
