Top shoulder fill, cork snug, removed intact, 90% saturated, with wine residue on top. Allowed to breathe in glass 1 hour. Clear deep dark garnet-blood-brick red color. Bouquet of black plum liqueur, black cherry liqueur, balsamic, cardamom, nutmeg, espresso, red clay, leather. Also some less pleasant notes of river mud, dried meat, saddle soap that intruded from time to time. On the palate this was full bodied with nice earthy tannic grip. This bottle seems past-prime. Rating withheld due to questionable cork.

From a Brunello tasting covering 2004 to 2008. This was the old start of the tasting. Deep brick colour, almost white at the rim. Pronounced aged aromas of muschrooms, warm earth, bricks and a hint of dried cherries, licquorice and coffe beans. Medium bodied. sweet attack on the palate , almost chocolaty, deeps sweet cherryfruit in the midpalate, then a fresh and coffee-tainted finish with some rather dry tannins. Sweet coffe tainted cherries in a long finish. This is just wonderful, much better than I hoped for. A perfectly balanced Brunello that I hve found a bit too oaky in earlier versions. Now the oak has been ncely digested, giving way to that sweet tobacco, coffe and dried cherry taste that is so characteristic of old Brunello. Superb. Drink now, but no hurry, this will keep for many years.

One of the wines that have stayed longest in my cellar (or to be correct: my cellars over time). Clearly aged colour with brownish tones. Intriguing and aged aromas dominated by mushrooms, warm earth and stewed fruit (prunes). Medium bodied, has lost quite a lot of fruit (something else would have been shocking), but still has a spicy and sweet fruit in the aftertaste. Nice length. Was probably better ten years ago, but a good example of aged Brunello. Also nice to taste wines form a presumably "lesser" vintage perform so good. Together with a simple pasta with wild mushrooms the match was almost perfect.

Maybe due to a lack of aeration, but this wine showed a bit square, also juicy; some age recognizable.
