Red and purple fruited, floral and earthy. Focused, precise, and with great acidity. Drinks similar to a Cru Beaujolais from a great vintage. A serious wine indeed. 90-91.

Was served blind and with the bright red fruits, a touch of forest floor, lighter color I was thinking Cru Beaujolais. Was a cool to find out it was a Blaufrankisch (which I definitely can't say).

Restaurant purchase note from memory. Decanted. Color dark. On palate this is dense with fruit balancing the structure.. This is really soft and polished on the palate and was excellent with dinner. Would buy this again

A seriously adult wine for 'old-fogeys' who don't want any of that modern-style stuff. This is firm and dark and dry and austere. Reminds one of a great Bordeaux in an 'off-vintage.' A very nice bottle of wine and - at the price - is a great alternative to Bordeaux.

(Wallner Blaufränkisch Reserve) ($31.00) Gerhard likes to keep his wines a few years, and so I have the luxury of waiting for the lovely 2009 and offering you a couple wines with at least a surmise of tertiary development. Besides, I love 2008. This one’s another pure, howl-at-the moon BF, precise and precisely my type; truffley, amazingly silky texture, Serrano-smoky, juicy, complex and nettley. +

Well developed with secondary flavors and reasonably well balanced structure.
