  • A nice enough Pinot that is still fresh, some lilting fruit, but neither heavy nor a syrah wannabe. More elegant than most inexpensive Pinot Noir I've had. Good QPR in a German Pinot Noir-- who'd have thought?

  • Sam's Pinot Noir tasting. Germany's contribution to the world of Pinot Noir. Dulcie and I disagreed considerably on this unusual wine; she described it as musty, weird with an undertaste of mothballs; I thought it had concentration and potential, but was not yet in balance. On this evidence the Riesling has little to fear.

  • lovely bouquet of cherry with a slight hint of cinnamon or nutmeg; the wine is a pale red yet medium bodied, with a surprising plushness on the palate. no noticeable tannins. the wine needs a little more acidity or minerality to balance everything out (the garagiste description oversells that aspect of the wine), but it's still a very solid, satisfying effort. (fyi, the bottle i opened last night had slight leakage around the cork; the wine didn't taste off but it a secondary element that i wouldn't expect in a 2003 pinot)
