Such a sassy Merlot. Spicy, plummy nose of black fruit, cigar box, and marzipan. Tasty red fruit and very piquant in the mouth. Good balance, brightness, and energy along with a medium body. Gets tastier the longer it sits. Nice.

An all-too-typical Napa Valley Merlot: deep color, berry and oak in the nose, fruit-forward flavors, too much alcohol (14.4%), and next-to-no varietal character. One might only guess that it's Merlot by eliminating all other red grapes. Finish is fat with a touch of astringency, but by the time the tannins go away the wine will probably have devolved into a flabby mess. Nevertheless, this formulaic example of the varietal will no doubt please those who choose Merlot out of ignorance and/or like this overblown style of wine. If you want a really GOOD Napa Valley Merlot, try the 2011 Neyers Merlot from Conn Valley.
I'm surprised by the low numbers for this wine. It is unapologetically, and hugely enjoyably, fruit forward with solid tannins and enough of a backbone to give it weight without astringency. Simple in the way that a sunset is simple - nothing mysterious, just a lot of dark fruit, viscous, easy drinking. Kudos, Beringer.

Aged surprisingly well. Balanced fruit, acidity and tannin, medium body. Not complex but very drinkable.

Decent flavor especially early on but the finish is a bit rough. Hopefully it will age well and is worth the price
