  • Napa 2011 Armanino Family Cellars Pinot Noir The Pintail Doctor's Vineyard ($30 Invino 2014). Light ruby, amber edges, viscous (15.0 alc.); red fruit, stemmy, ripe grape nose; low acids; softening tannins; semi-long red fruit finish. 16/90.

  • Light ruby-purple color. Packed with strawberries, red cherries and red plums on the nose, a strong aromatic burst with elements of sweet rhubarb pie, roses and spearmint. Full-bodied, at 15% this is not a subtle wine, yet it holds itself together quite well. A bit low on the acid, the wine is velvety with fine tannins… gobs of all kinds of red fruit. Notes of roses and red licorice mix with earthy elements (dusty soil, tobacco, hint of mushroom). Oak and roasted chestnut linger onto the finish. I really need more acid to get really stoked about this wine, but I can’t help but enjoy its rich and velvety approach.
