  • 13,5% alcohol. Tasted half-blind.

Deep, luminous and moderately translucent cherry red color. Somewhat restrained but also quite fragrant nose with fine-tuned aromas of raspberries, sour cherries, some gravelly minerality, light meaty tones, a little bit of savory wood spice, hints of dried red fruits and a touch of beet root. The wine is ripe, moderately full-bodied and somewhat angular yet remarkably silky on the palate with dry, complex flavors of cherries, peppery and slightly earthy Pinosity, some sour red plum tones, a little bit of crunchy cranberries, light woody tones, a hint of beet root and a floral touch of perfumed violet character. High in acidity with firm, textural and somewhat resolved tannins. The finish is long, dry and gently grippy with savory flavors of meaty umami, tart cranberry tones, some sour cherry bitterness, a little bit of salt-cured beef, light earthy tones and a ripe hint of plummy dark fruit.

A beautifully developed, silky and very nuanced Grand Cru Burgundy that is starting to show some age, but still feels like it is quite long way away from its apogee. Most likely will peak in or around next 15 years, but nevertheless drinking beautifully now. Layers upon layers of savory fruit and earthy Pinosity. The nose takes a little bit before it comes around, but it is quite captivating once it does. A classic textbook red Burgundy.

  • Good Wine with an Exciting Super Bowl (Chez Kailin - Northbrook IL): I liked this when initially tasted after open an hour, with moderate black fruit, even if nowhere near the power or complexity for Grand Cru in a great vintage. I later found it tired and bland when retasted a couple of hours later.

  • Mazis-Chambertin Dinner (Sepia - Chicago IL): Open 3.5 hours before serving, all in decanter. Black dense fruit on nose and palate. Somewhat simple in the middle, but good spice and fruit re-emerge on finish.

  • Showing really well for being this young, bright fruit at first (cali pinot-ish almost to my palate), depth comes in with some air and the character starts to emerge. Really enjoyable now, but I bet will be a knockout with some time.
